Few summer pairings are as iconic as strawberries and cream.

With British strawberry season peaking alongside Wimbledon, the classic dessert has become one of the tournament’s most long-lasting traditions, with more than 140,000 portions served during the two-week championship.

And in 2025, that tradition became a little more expensive. Wimbledon increased the price of its famous strawberries and cream from £2.50 to £2.70, marking the first rise in 15 years.

With Wimbledon just around the corner and strawberries taking centre court, we’ve crunched the numbers on supermarket punnets across the UK to uncover which offer the sweetest value for money and which come with the biggest price tag per gram. Worst value strawberry punnit:

Waitrose’s Duchy Organic Strawberries 225G – £1.78 per 100 g

At the very top of the price-per-gram list are Duchy Organic Strawberries, costing a whopping £1.78 per 100g. Grown using organic and sustainable farming methods, these sweet berries may be kinder to the planet, but they’re certainly not as kind to your wallet.

Meanwhile, ASDA’s British Strawberries offer the best value per gram, at £0.49 per 100g, making it the most affordable option on the list.

Tesco’s Finest Strawberries 600g may be the most expensive punnet overall at £5.00, but they offer much better value at just £0.83 per 100g. It seems that when it comes to strawberries, buying bigger really can mean getting more berry for your buck.

M&s strawberries

For those seeking a balance between price and indulgence, M&S British Strawberries (£0.67 per 100g) and Tesco Strawberries (£0.63 per 100g) offer the best of both worlds. Both come in generous 600g punnets, making them ideal for summer BBQs, Wimbledon watch parties, or simply enjoying with a dollop of cream in the sunshine.

So, which punnet is worth the splurge?

If you’re after a truly premium punnet, Tesco’s Rose Pearl Sweet & Juicy Rose Strawberries command one of the highest prices on the list at £1.24 per 100g. But for shoppers looking to strike a balance between quality and affordability, BerryWorld British Strawberries XL offer excellent value at just £0.53 per 100g.

So, which strawberries are worth adding to your basket? If you’re after a premium punnet, there are plenty of luxury options to choose from. But for shoppers looking to make their money go further, some supermarket favourites offer surprisingly sweet value.
