Last week the JBH team travelled to brightonSEO San Diego to support our Director of SEO on his talk where he shared an insightful client case study, illustrating the significant influence Digital PR can have on SEO.


In this talk, Andy explored how digital PR empowers brands to rise above their competition and establish authority in their category. A key focus was on how Google uses “mention information” to measure a brand’s credibility – something it has been doing for years.

Mentions, unlike other ranking factors, are incredibly difficult to manipulate because they require three critical elements:

  • a credible source (the brand)
  • valuable information
  • placement on a high-authority, relevant domain or subdomain.

Andy then showcased a practical example of how we apply these principles for our clients. Over time, this approach consistently delivers results: achieving high rankings in even the most competitive categories. Digital PR doesn’t just provide “brand mentions”; it also generates high-quality backlinks, both of which are crucial for improving search visibility and authority.

One of the standout tactics Andy highlighted was newsjacking, which is leveraging timely news stories to create compelling campaigns that attract media attention. He shared detailed insights into how this works and why it’s so effective.
